December 11, 2022 Update

Good morning Brother,

Praying this note finds you, Lynn and the MTH family doing well. From our side we are doing well even though the gangs are getting close to us. They are about 5 minutes away from us. Sous-Matelas is the village between TiTanyen and Cabaret. But we do believe that God is on control and we will continue to believe and trust him for our safety.

We have had a lot of people moving from Canaan, TiTanyen and Sous-Matelas to Cabaret. As a result Foveau and Messailler churches receive a lot of new visitors which is good and sad.

  1. Good - because we have the opportunity to present the gospel to them and reach them for God's Kingdom
  2. Sad - because they have to leave everything behind just to save their lives.
The situation is not different at Montrouis and St Marc Churches.

Each year, in December, PMH holds 31 days of prayer. We start on December 1st and we end on December 31st. This year, because of the terrible shortage of food in Haiti and because of so many people who have no food at all, PMH wants to distribute food and water in four different locations, FOVEAU, MESSAILLER, MONTROUIS AND ST MARC, at the end of this month. In order to do that we are asking MTH to help us to buy some food to accomplish this goal. We will go personally for the distribution and send a lot of pictures so you can make sure everything will be done properly. In an other email I will send you the cost of a bag of rice.

Love,
Charles

July 23, 2022 Update

Good afternoon,
Just a note to give you an idea from where we are after the flood last Thursday. The church members joined with Foveau worked Friday and Saturday all day to free the sanctuary, the boutique and two other rooms close to it. Yesterday we had the same number of people and they worked at the kitchen and the other room by the kitchen. It took more time because they had to carry water from the dormitory to wash everything out.

Today was our day of fasting and praying so we didn't clean up. But they will go back to work tomorrow and hopefully we can have everything ready by the end of this week including the school building where every single room was under the mud.

We have our problems but other people in the area continue to come every day for help. According a report that I received this morning from someone in the community, 13 families were seriously touched by the flood; they lost most of their kitchen materials and clothes. As for us, not only the back wall was down but also we lost,

  1. All our generators
  2. Most of our music system. Partick did not have time to rescue them.
  3. Most of our school materials down of the school building and so forth.

I fell in running to rescue my vehicle which was parked by the front gate and I fractured both my left hand and my right knee. God is always good to us but we pray that we will be able to rebuild the back wall as soon as possible because even though we put a temporary Wall, it cannot stop people from watching everything on the camp which is always tempting.

Love and peace,
Charles and Antonine Amicy

June 1, 2022 Update

Here is an update on the events in Haiti. It is very sad to report the lawlessness that is taking place in Haiti, with gangs committing crime without recourse. It is very unsafe for foreigners to visit and offer support without being at risk. Pastor Charles was able to get the container to the camp without incident and unload the contents. With the funds that were collected for disaster relief, he has been able to help many families rebuild their lives from the earthquake in Les Cayes.

He has also held food distributions with the meals from the Gleaners in Les Cayes and at home to the six churches he oversees as well as the surrounding community. The Ontario Christian Gleaners have been a huge blessing for Mission to Haiti over the past 11 years, supplying over 5 million meals for the people of Haiti through us. Thank You!!

School life has been sporadic because of the unrest but they continue to forge ahead with classes when possible. The children of Haiti are very resilient and it is a great blessing to support the schools throughout the unrest by education and meals. They are educating the leaders of tomorrow to give Haiti a brighter future.

Our 20th Annual golf Tournament is coming up at Burford Golf Course on June 18/22. Funds raised are used to paid for the container we send every year to support Pastor Charles.

Blessings, Ed Hettinga

2021 Earthquake Update

Four years ago when I travelled to Haiti with Mission to Haiti Canada, I travelled to Les Cayes to deliver relief supplies after Hurricane Matthew. The house where we were welcomed has been destroyed by the 7.2 earthquake on Saturday and the area suffered much damage. There was no damage at Pastor Charles' camp but he has close connections with the church in Les Cayes. We will be coordinating with Pastor Charles to see how MTH Canada can assist the Haitians in these trying times. Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers! Any funds collected will be channeled through Pastor Charles and go directly to the people affected by the earthquake. Ed Hettinga

Since the recent earthquake hit Haiti on the morning of Saturday August 14th, we have been in contact with the Pastor Charles Amicy at the Presbyterian Mission in Haiti (PMH). All PMH's church and school sites are intact and have no damage from the earthquake. While our facilities are not compromised, Pastor Charles has many connections in the Les Cayes area where we did a food distribution about four years ago after the significant hurricane and flooding in that area. We have been in discussions with PMH, to determine how best we can assist from afar at this time, through their resources.

  • First item of importance is to provide shelter to those who have lost their homes. Our focus is on the individual families and neighbourhoods that are served by the local LesCayes church. We have given Charles permission to use the 2x4s and plywood in the container to build temporary shelters for the people who have lost their houses. I have talked to Hawkey construction about using their donation for this and they have overwhelming agreed.
  • Second item that Charles says is important is to get rice, beans and fresh water to the people of LesCayes since they are not getting any assistance from the government. To address this, we need to announce to our MTH community that we will take monetary donations for the next four weeks so that we can sent these funds to Charles to by food supplies. They will have organized food distributions with the Church and the mayor.
  • Third item is getting some longer term supplies such as clothing and shoes to these people to allow them to have some normalcy into their lives because many of them have lost most of their belonging. To respond to this I would like to send an announcement to our MTH churches and communities that for the full month of September we want to hold a clothing and shoe drive at our Churches to support these efforts. We would collect these goods and then ship them along with the Gleaners food in October in the container.

Monetary donations can be made by etransfer to mthcanadaed@gmail.com or by sending a cheque to Mission to Haiti Canada, PO Box 104, Hickson, Ontario N0J 1L0. Then we can assemble the funds.

Clothing donations can be dropped off at Streef Produce, 447 Highway 2, Princeton, ON. Contact the front office before proceeding.

Blessings,
Mission To Haitia Canada Board

Can you say praise the Lord Almighty with me? Yesterday I got the container released and unloaded at PMH campus and today Haiti has demonstrations all over to force the president to leave the office. It was a blessing having the container on time. Apricot, lots of clothes, gifts for the school children and orphans, lots of beans, mixed soup and so forth were loaded in a 40 foot container, loaded, paid and sent by Mission to Haiti Canada. Our gratefulness to God and thankfulness to MTH Canada and our brothers and sisters in Canada. Christmas arrived for the communities of Port au Prince, Foveau, Messailler, Montrouis and St Marc where PMH is ministering.

Everything, along with rice and oil, will be feely distributed.
The money to buy rice and oil was sent also by Mission to Haiti Canada.

Thank you my brothers and sisters!

To God be all praise and Glory!

Persevering in Christ,

Charles and Antonine Amicy

As I write this our container that we loaded is sailing towards Port au Prince and due to arrive today. This year we received 20 skids of food from the Ontario Christian Gleaners consisting of 250,000 meals of soup mix, 114 boxes of dried apricots, 80 sacks of barley and 6-1,000 kg bulk bags of beans. The beans make up for the shortfall of soup mix normally received that we substitute for the soup when PMH does a food distribution. Any of you that have been to Haiti know that the Haitian food staple is rice and beans. We are hoping that the barley can be a substitute for the rice. We are also sending extra funds collected that can be used to purchase rice to meet their needs for the food distributions. Volunteers were able to load the container in record time because of the bulk packaging, as well as emptying the storage trailer of all the contents for the first time in 10 years. We store all of the donated clothes, milk mats, baby blankets, wheelchairs, school supplies and vitamins during the year.

Pastor Charles and Bisson have been in contact with us and tell us that the virus has not been as bad there. Their medical infrastructure is not what it is here in Canada so it is a blessing that the pandemic has not affected them to the extent it has here. All the schools are functioning but there have been challenges like everywhere else with attendance. We have not been able to travel to Haiti to update your pictures of the children in the sponsorship program. It has always been a highlight to hand out your shoe box if you travel with us on a team to your sponsor child and to receive a picture of us handing out that box. We hope that next year will allow us to continue this. I am in the process of sending the quarterly funds for the sponsorship program and supplementary funds for the container, pastoral support and food distributions.

Calvary Pentecostal Assembly and Emmanuel Reformed Church have been sending funds to support the pastors in the PMH. These funds go to the support the 6 churches in Pastor Charles ministry. They are given to the pastors but really help these churches ministry with the limited financial resources. If your church is interested in supporting this ministry to the people of Haiti, contact one of our board members.

These are trying times for us at Mission to Haiti. Our donations are down like every other charity but know that 99% of funds collected make it directly to the people of Haiti. Please keep MTH and the people of Haiti in your prayers.

Blessings, Ed Hettinga

Good afternoon my brother Glenn.

This situation is a big surprise for the whole world but our case in Haiti is the worst because we have nothing prepared to face this mess. So far brother, we are safe. We stay home most of the time and we hold services in small groups but thank God for using MTH to send us the soup. Antonine is busy every day serving soup to the community even though her family is affected by the virus. One of her Aunts died by the virus in New York and she can't even go. Everything is very slow but we continue to pray that God can intervene in that situation.

Love you Brother.

We are all praying for the country of Haiti that God may spare these people from this pandemic. At this time Mission to Haiti will be collecting funds to send to Charles to help with food relief. As you can see the soup from the Gleaners continues to be a blessing for the community. Haiti will struggle as their medical system is almost non-existent with approximately 60 ventilators for the whole country. Funds can be sent by e-transfer to mthcanadaed@gmail.com or by Visa thru Paypal on the website.

March 15, 2020

As I write this letter much has happened since my last report. After cancelling our November mission trip because of unrest in the country Pastor Charles has been busy supporting the people of Haiti with the gifts that were in the container. Mission to Haiti coordinates the arrival of the container with the November team to help with the unloading of the container when it arrives at the camp. Pastor Charles was able to clear the container from the port and get the protestors to let him through the barricades to get the container to camp and unload it. It was a GOD wink for him to get through the barricades when no one else was allowed through. It took these events for us to show us that we are doing great works even when we are not physically there. It was God's plan all along.

With the help of the Cabaret church Charles was able to unload the container at the camp within the time given him by the protestors and return the container to the port. 800,000 meals from the Gleaners were placed in the container at camp with what remained from last years shipment. The building supplies are now in the other container and will stay there until the November team, Lord willing.

Pastor Charles has held six food distributions in his churches feeding 3000 families with the Gleaners soup and rice purchased with extra funds sent after collections were held after the trip was cancelled. ALL the clothes that were packed in the container have been given out as well leaving the boutique empty. I would like to thank everyone that dropped off supplies that filled the container to the brim, they were a true blessing for those in need. Charles will continue to use those resources to aid his community in any way he can. Our hope is that our contributions will be a blessing for the people of Haiti.

We will continue to receive donations of clothes, school supplies, milk mats and various items to load in the container in September. Please be mindful of the clothes you donate that if they are going to a warm country and must be in good condition. Any vitamins must be within expiry dates or they will be discarded. As I write this the world is going through great turmoil with Covid-19 but remember the Lord is in control always! Pray for those that are less fortunate than you like our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Yours in Christ, Ed Hettinga
